What is Rotary? |

The Object of Rotary
is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a
basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage
and foster: |

The Board of R.I. (1962-63)
has adopted the following statement of the fundamental characteristics
of Rotary. |

|
|
|
|
FIRST.
The development of acquaintance
as an opportunity for service.
|
|
1.
Rotary is concerned with the development, encouragement, and
fostering of understanding, goodwill, and peaceful relations
among people throughout the world based upon the ideals of
service |
|
SECOND. High ethical standards in business
and professions; the recognition of the
worthiness of all useful occupations, and the
dignifying by each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity
to serve society.

2.
Rotary is a world fellowship of business and professional
persons banded together in Rotary clubs for the purpose of
encouraging the practical application of the ideals of service
both individually and collectively – with emphasis on the
individual. |
|
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service
in each Rotarian's personal, business and
community life.
|
|
3.
A Rotary club selects its members on a basis of classification
in accordance with the nature and place of the individual’s
business or professional activities. |
|
FOURTH.
The advancement of international
understanding, goodwill, and peace through a
world of business and professional persons untied in the ideal of service.
|
|
4.
Attendance at regular club meeting is required at least to
a stated minimum for the continuance of membership so that
acquaintance and fellowship may be developed as a first step
toward lasting friendships. |

5.
Rotary clubs provide members with opportunities to develop
an appreciation of and a desire to practice and exemplify
high ethical standards in their personal and business or professional
activities. |

6.
The religious and political belief of Rotarians are regarded
as being their own concern. A Rotarians are expected to be
faithful to their own religious and be loyal citizens. |
