Interactors get insight into
career with hospitality industry
through vocational attachment
with The New Otani Hotel

10 students from the Interact Club of CHIJ, St. Theresa's Convent, were given an overall insight into the Hospitality Industry courtesy of Rotarian Yoshi and his kind staff from The New Otani Hotel on the afternoon of 17th November. The vocational attachment cum seminar included a detailed slide presentation of  the hotel's management structure, function and operation including it's front and back-of-the-house set-up.

This visit also included a a welcome address by Rotarian Yoshioka, Managing Director of

The Hotel New Otani and a walk-about tour to the main departments such as:

  • Back-of-the-House areas (where only staff are allowed), - Pastry Kitchen, F&B Dept, HR Dept, Security Dept, Purchasing Dept, Loading & Unloading Bay, Laundry Department and

  • The main Front-of-the-House areas (where the hotel guests ply), - Front Desk, the Hotel's Ballroom, Restaurants, Poolside, etc.

Our students also had the opportunity to interact with Rotarian Yoshioka (MD), Mr. Bernard Lee (HR Director) and Ms Althea Leong (PR Manager) following the tour, exchanging views, opinions, visions, goals, and thoughts over light refreshments courtesy of the hotel. It is hoped that this would paint a clearer picture to our Interactors on the real workings of a hotel, its structural tradition, people, culture as well as a first hand encounter of the hospitality industry. **(contributed by Ms Althea Leong, PR Manager, The New Otani Hotel)

RCSW would like to thank Rtn Yoshi, Mr Bernard Lee and Ms Althea Leong and the management team at The New Otani Hotel for taking time off in aid of Rotary service to our youth / new generations.
