To a better 2004
RCSW marks opening of
2004 with a successful goodwill
visit to RC Cebu-West in December 2003.
A visit which was temporarily marred by recent global events |
|
|
RCSW
paid a goodwill visit to RC Cebu-West from 11th to 14th December
2003. The delegation included President Wei Lien, PP Peter Kong &
Director Gary Loh.
Upon arrival, the RCSW delegation was greeted at the airport by
President Nonito and his greeting team. They were than taken to
a "high-tea" at an Italian café ... where the meal was personally
cooked by the owner-chef himself. This was followed almost
immediately by a sumptuous dinner where President Wei Lien, on
behalf of RCSW, presented each RC Cebu-West member present at the
dinner - the Christmas CD "All Wrapped Up" by the a cappella
group 'Vocaluptuous'. The significance of the CDs, i.e. to
raise funds for the wheelchair vehicle for the Society for the
Physically Disabled (SPD), was explained to them .
The next day, the RCSW delegation visited the Disability Centre
and the Autistic School, where most of the computers, previously
collected in Singapore, were donated to.

The
RCSW team was also deeply honoured that the "RC Cebu-West
Christmas Dinner" was organized and brought forward to
coincide with their visit. At dinner, President Wei Lien
addressed our sister club and suggested that we should
actually be "Brother-Club", especially since both our
clubs are some of the few without lady members. It was
thus adopted by members present that henceforth, we be
know as "Brother-Clubs".
Preliminary discussions, on behalf of RCSW, were also made
with PE Wilton on the proposed joint project for next the
RY involving a Day-Care Centre for "garbage-dump kids"
from the ages 5 - 8 years. The mission is to get these
kids out of the dump and give them pre-school education at
the same time. The mission will also include counseling
their parents on the the importance of basic education as
well as health related matters for their children's
future. This project proposal will be handed to PE KK Tan
and his BOD for consideration.
Prior to departure, at the farewell lunch, RC Cebu-West
presented RCSW with a donation of US$1,000.00 towards the
SPD wheelchair vehicle fund. Many Thanks to them indeed !!
The RC Cebu-West Induction Ceremony and Dinner will be
scheduled for 18th June 2004. RCSW members interested in
joining the goodwill delegation are requested to keep this
period free. The intended visit is scheduled for Thursday
17th to Sunday 20th, June 2004. Members may e-mail
incoming Director
Edward Lim for details.

Rotaract Club of Singapore - West receives Appreciation Award |
|
|
On 20th
December 2003, the Rotaract Club of Singapore - West was awarded a
Certificate of Appreciation by the Singapore Prisons for their
contribution in conducting workshops to help with the rehabilitation
of prison inmates back to main stream society.
The workshops included PC skills, PC maintenance, Business English
(Resume writing, Grammar, etc). The Community Service Director is
none other than the daughter of Rtn Bernard Chia. This is the second
year the club has worked with the Singapore Prison and they plan to
continue into the next Rotary year. They have recently collected 140
used PCs and laptops from the Jurong Town Corporation for donation
to the Singapore Prison. They will also be using these PCs for their
future workshops.
Congratulations to Rotaractor Chia Yi Ling and to the Rotaract Club
of Singapore - West. WELL DONE

To
discuss and pass a proposed amendment to our Constitution and
By-Laws |
|
The proposed Constitution and
By-Laws amendment is to:
1. Facilitate the Board of Directors' approval for the club to
invest our Ted De Ponti Fund in a Singapore Dollar denominated Bond.
2. Provide evidence to Citibank that our Constitution and By-Laws
have been amended to provide for Bond investments.
3. Lay the ground for future decisions by the Board to invest the
Club's surplus funds into more Singapore Dollar denominated Bonds.
OBJECTIVE: TO OBTAIN A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER YIELD FROM OUR FUNDS
FOR THE PURPOSE OF GIVING TO CHARITY (This is especially so
during current times where deposit rates are paying no more than 1%
pa).
PROPOSED AMENDMENT:
That Article X - Finances include a new section following Section 5
to read as:
Section 6
The Treasurer shall, with the approval of the Board of Directors,
invest any surplus funds accumulated by the club in "Investment
Grade" Singapore Dollar denominated Bonds with tenors not exceeding
10 -12 years and with yields that are higher than current short term
deposits. Where appropriate, a 3-men investment committee be formed
to advice the Board. The committee will comprise the Treasurer and
two other members who are qualified and conversant with financial
instruments. |
