" Your
Donation of $1 will assure one meal
costing $3 for a needy person once a day "
**
MEALS from
the HEART - a D3310 Rotary Centennial Project ** |
|
|
Rotary has been at the forefront of community service for almost 100
years. It has built up a brand name as the largest volunteer service
organization in the world. It has gained prominence as an important
collaborating partner with WHO in eradicating Polio in the world by
2005.
In celebration of Rotary turning 100, D3310 has initiated a
Centennial Community Project termed
"Meals from the Heart"
to mark the centennial of the founding of Rotary. This district
project is spearheaded by PP Allan Yap from RC Bugis who was
invited to our luncheon on Thursday to give us an insight. According
to PP Allan, the Project should :
First:
not involve digging too deep into one's pocket so as to avoid
'donation fatigue'.
Second: not involve
too much time, as Rotarian's are very busy people.
Third:
it must serve a need with continuity from year to year. The third
objective will particularly enhance Rotary's image and brand name in
the heartlands of Singapore.
The centennial project goal is thus
to provide one free nourishing
meal a day for a needy person
in our community. It is envisaged that a S$3 meal consisting of a
staple - rice, one meat and 2 vegetables or the like would provide a
more than adequate nourishing meal.
To see this through , the participants involved will include:
1. The hawker who will
discount the meal by S$1.00
2. The CDC who will sponsor S$1.00 for each meal
3. The sponsor who will donate S$1.00
|
|
The project will first
be launched in the south west CDC where the Rotary Family
Service Centre is located. The initial target is to
provide 100 meals a day which equates to about 40,000
meals a year. The cost for each participant would thus be
S$40,000 a year. With 20 clubs in Singapore, each club's
commitment would be a meager S$2,000. An affordable sum
that can be raised easily by each club. Further, the
donation for this project is three times tax deductible -
i.e. for every S$1 donated, a S$3 tax deduction is
awarded.
The project will be coordinated with the help of the
Foundation of Rotary Clubs (S) Ltd and will be
administered by the Rotary Family Service Centre.
Only hawker stalls with good hygiene standards will be
invited to participate. The Rotary Family Service Centre
will identify eligible candidates with extremely low
income, for "Meals from the Heart". Meal coupons will be
issued and participants can then go to the designated
hawker and get food of their choice. Payment to stall
owners will be made at the end of the month by Rotary
Family Service Centre at Clementi on return of the
coupons.
Major sponsors will have their name and logo displayed on
all meal coupons and will also be acknowledged at the
celebration of the 100th anniversary of Rotary
International on 23rd February 2005. In addition, donors
will be recognized as follows:
100 Meals for 30 days
Bronze Donor ($
3,000)
100 Meals for 60 days Silver Donor
($ 6,000)
100 Meals for 100 days
Gold Donor
($10,000)
100 Meals for 200 days
Diamond Donor ($20,000)
100 Meals for 360 days Platinum Donor
($36,000)
Progress details of this project will highlighted by PP
Allan Yap.

A REQUEST FROM THE
TREASURER:
-
All Guest and
Rotarians who have made donations and/or taking part in the
Golf Tournament for our Major Project are requested to
include their IC numbers in the Registration Forms. For
those who have already completed their forms, it would be
appreciated if you could forward the relevant details of
yourself or your guest to the treasurer as well.
-
This would
facilitate the granting of tax relief for donations to tax
exempt beneficiaries approved by IRAS. It will also
facilitate e-filing by beneficiaries on behalf of donors so
that IRAS will automatically give donors their tax credits.
No manual receipts will be required in future.
