Fireside Chat

14^th March 2006

The Annual Fireside chat this year will be held on the evening of 25 May.  The speaker for the Fireside will be the well-known local author and social critic Ms Catherine Lim.  Ms Lim has published 9 collections of short stories, 7 novels and a collection of poems.  Besides Singapore, her books have also been published in many overseas countries.  Her books are regularly used as texts in colleges and universities, and 2 as literature texts for GCE examinations.  Ms Catherine Lim has also written several commentaries on social issues and appeared on various radio and television programmes.

Ms Catherine Lim will speak on the topic “Perils, Promises, Paradoxes: How Catherine Lim sees her role as social critic”.  Do join us for an evening which promises to be engaging, evocative and entertaining, and share your views on burning social issues of the day.

PP Bay Yew Chuan

About the Speaker:

The speaker this week is none other than PP Bay Yew Chuan.  PP Bay serves as club president in Rotary Year 1993/1994 and has been a Rotarian for 23 years since his induction in 1983.  He has serves the club faithfully for many years and is a board member of the Rotary Family Service Centre in Ayer Rajah.

He is the Vice Chairman of Store+Deliver+Logistics Pte Ltd and also serves as a business consultant for other companies.

Notice:

1.  From PN Chuen Eng – Donation Tax Receipts for Major Project will be distributed out at the lunch meeting for those interested in making the claims for their income tax submissions.  The receipts can be collected from the main table from 2 March onwards.

3. 3 May 2006 – President’s Cup Golf Fellowship will be held at Sembawang Country Club.  The details are as follows:

Cost: $48 (members), $110 (non-members)

Cost includes green fee, buggy fee, quick lunch and 8-course sit-down Chinese dinner and GST.

Dinner for non-golfers would cost $35.

4. 17 June 2006 – Installation cum President’s Fellowship Night at Raffles Country Club.  Keep this date free and plan your June holidays around it!
