Major Project

12th April 2006

Some good news.  The Totalisator Board has just given their support to the Major Project and allocated $20,000 for the Rotary Family Service Centre.  This donation together with the earlier $30,000 donation from the Lee Foundation has allowed the Major Project to fulfill about 90% of our pledge commitments.  However, we are still short of about $12,000 and ideas are welcomed as to how we can breach this gap.

Even as we grapple with the shortfall of funds for the beneficiaries, we seek the help from members to simplify the job of the treasurer to reconcile the project accounts and payments by their prompt payments (and a big thank you to those who have already made good their donations).  Each golfer is required to pay $500 for Major Project and for non-golfers, the amount pledged is $400.  It would certainly be a sad situation if we had to “chase” after payment one year later (which I’m afraid is the case for some outstanding payments from last year’s major project).

Message from President

Dear Members,

Re: PHF matching grant project with RC Dhonburi

RC Singapore West has agreed to support RC Dhonburi with its “Satellite TV” project to raise funds to purchase satellite TVs for poor and remote villages in the Thai countryside. The equipment consists of satellite dishes, decoder receivers, television sets and related equipment.  Plans are to donate a total of 40 sets to different villages.  This project is a matching grant PHF project, with three of Dhonburi’s sister clubs involved – RC Yahata in Japan, RC Pusan-Gudeok in Korea and RCWS.

We have committed 3 PHFs for this meaningful project.  I would like to appeal for 2 more members who are not Paul Harris Fellow yet, or whose PHF donation has been quite a while ago, to come forward and support this cause.  Similar to our other matching grant project, you as the donor will know where the funds are going, and you can actually join a visit to Dhonburi later in the year for the handover ceremony.

Pieter Van Putten

PS. Our newest member, Rtn Alan Koh has graciously agreed to commit to a PHF for this effort
