Joint Meeting

12th September 2006

We will be having our first in a series of 3 joint meetings with Rotary Club of Victoria and E-Club.  This allows an opportunity to interact at a closer level with fellow Rotarians in these 2 clubs in our group.  Notwithstanding the vigorous debate on the why and wherefore, the decision has already been made and we need to move on and support our President by our presence at Queens Hotel.

After the 3 meetings has been conducted, we will then have the time to review this practice just as we have reviewed the practice of an evening meeting on the last Thursday of the month and found that it was something that we wanted to continue as a club.

From Service to New Generations

Members will be happy to note that our Rotaract Club of Singapore West has recently installed their new Board. On Saturday 9th September the Club also celebrated the 11th Anniveversary of their BP-NUS Rotaract Mentoring Programme. The Guest of Honour was Baey Yam Keng , MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC. Rotarian Adviser PE Yeo Chuen Eng and SNG Director Ronnie Neo attended both events.

This year the programme has adopted Beatty Secondary School as their latest addition. Coincidentally, Beatty's inclusion has been initiated by the Interact Teacher Adviser, Mr. C P Tham, a former mentor himself. NUS Rotaract has 80 mentors to carry out the programme for the four beneficiary schools. The other beneficiaries are Geylang Methodist Primary School, Bukit Merah Secondary School, and Henderson Secondary School.

The Principals of the schools gave very good testimonies of their involvement.

Appeal for Work Attachment

Interactors have begun to ask for possible work attachments for the year end holidays.

Interactors are typically between the ages of 15-18; mostly girls. If members' businesses and work places can accomodate this request, we'd be grateful.

Attachments can last a week, and Interactors should be allowed to gain insight into working life in general; and not necesarily any specific task.

So 'shadowing' someone in your promotions department etc may be something worthwhile to consider.

Director Ronnie Neo
