Beyond Genghis Khan

11th October 2006

For those that still travel for leisure, this week’s speaker will offer an insight into a travel location that is way off the beaten track – Mongolia – the land of Genghis and Kublai Khans.  After his presentation, perhaps you may want to consider this as a destination for your next adventure trip.

Dear fellow Rotarians,

Please join us this Thursday for a presentation on

“Beyond Genghis Khan”

Mr PJ Toh, Founder, MPX Adventure

Extracts about our speaker comes from http://www.mxpadventure.com/aboutus.php

PJ was born in Singapore and spent all his childhood and teenage years in an urban environment.

During his primary and secondary school days, PJ was just an average student with no excellent academic record to brag about. However, he excelled academically while reading his Mechanical Engineering diploma in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He graduated with the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal for being the top graduate in Mathematics and Science from a polytechnic, as well as the Ngee Ann Kongsi Gold Medal for being the most outstanding graduate in the year 1995. These awards have opened opportunities for PJ to win an overseas scholarship to pursue his first degree in Mechanical Engineering in Imperial College of London.

Besides his academic track record, PJ displayed excellent leadership qualities and competence in his military training during his two and a half years of mandatory National Service with the Singapore Armed Forces. He completed his Officer Cadet training as a Sword-of-Merit winner and continued to receive several awards for his outstanding military performance. He is now a company commander with more than 70 officers, sergeants and soldiers under his in-charge.

PJ is a travel bug and has traveled to over thirty-five countries spanning five continents. He enjoys horse riding in Mongolia, trekking in the Patagonia Andes, snowboarding in the Alps, cycling in Iceland and many more. Despite his extensive traveling experiences, he finds Mongolia the most attractive country. Since his first visit to Mongolia in 1998, he has made five other visits in 1999, 2000 and 2004 and spent a total of seven months in the country.

On behalf of the programme committee, we look forward to seeing you this Thursday.

Yours in Rotary
