Raising Standards

One of the advantages of Rotary membership is the vast network that we are connected as part of this organisation. This week, we get to see how this network works as we hear from our fellow Rotarian from Makati West.

Last week, we had an excellent presentation from a group of teenagers that showed maturity way beyond their age.  Their efforts for promoting the “Ghar Project” should be lauded and do contact Director Tiong Boon for those who wish to help them in this effort.

Dear fellow Rotarians,

"Raising Standards – The Key to Competitiveness"

by Mr Franco Del Rosario

This thursday's lunch programme will feature Mr Franco del Rosario from our sister club Makati West. He owns his own business consultancy firm with a few other partners.

He has prepared the following highlight for his presentations:

“In business, “why, who, when, what, how” to raise standards?

Let’s take the first question: why raise standards? U.S. studies showed that most firms operate on a 3 sigma level. These studies also showed that when firms moved from a 3 sigma to a 6 sigma level, the cost of the defects drop from 20% to 30% of sales to only 1% of sales.

What standards to raise?

You, Your People, Your Products, Your Services, Your Community Presence.

How to raise standards?

We need to raise standards more than others. The key to competitiveness for firms would be following what a “pole-vaulter” does; to jump high enough to clear the bar.  Then, do it again, and again, and again each time the bar is raised.”

Yours in Rotary

Michael Chua
