Please join us this Thursday for a presentation
"My
journey in Journalism"
by Rotarian Shobha Bhalla, founder India Se
Our speaker this week, Rotarian Shobha Tsering Bhalla, is the founder of
India Se. India Se is the first lifestyle magazine for global
(expatriate) Indians. It is the brainchild of veteran journalist and
former bank executive Shobha Tsering Bhalla. She has been honing the
India Se concept in various “avatars” over the last two years, ever
since the newspaper she was employed in asked for some new
revenue-generating ideas.
Very
soon, India Se – a name she coined for the magazine - became such a
consuming passion and “cause” for her that she even resigned an
extremely satisfying job in an extremely good newspaper to give birth to
her Magnum Opus.
The
magazine could hardly have asked for a better founder: Shobha is a
well-known India-born journalist who has been based in Singapore for 21
years and has extensive experience as a senior print and online
journalist.
From 1999
– 2003, she was the pioneering Managing Editor of Lycos Asia - in charge
of Internet content for 9 countries in Asia.
Prior to that she worked as Regional Research Editor in the equities
research division of ING Barings and, earlier, as a Research Editor at
OCBC Investment Research.
From 1989
to 1997, she was also a senior correspondent in Singapore 's oldest
national daily The Straits Times and more recently Editor of the Impact
and Property sections of Singapore 's 2nd largest circulating newspaper
TODAY.
Born in
Sikkim , India , and now a naturalized Singaporean, Shobha began her
working life well over two decades ago as a management trainee and
correspondent banking officer at the State Bank of India , India 's
largest bank and moved to Singapore with her businessman husband 21
years ago.
But
despite her many achievements in the media and corporate world, her
greatest achievements are her two wonderful children – Sidhartha and
Diya (Maya).
On behalf
of the Programme Committee, we look forward to seeing you this Thursday.
Yours in Rotary,
