United Nations

The United Nations may not be as old as Rotary International but its role in the world is huge (I think).  While all of us can understand its importance, yet many are sceptical of its actual ability to influence the outcome of world events.  This week’s speaker will give you his personal view of the UN after his two year stint there in the Singapore UN Mission.

Since F1 is in the news, I would like to highlight that the speaker has just been recruited into the STB team to prepare for the event.  Who knows, we might even be able to get the speaker to sponsor a F1 ticket for a lucky draw for those attending the talk!  So do come join us for the meeting this Thursday.

"The United Nations – or Disunited nations?"

by Mr Leong Yue Kheong

Our speaker this week, Mr Leong Yue Kheong, has served the Singapore Armed Forces for more than 31 years and recently retired as a Brigadier-General.  During his military career he has commanded the 7th Guards Brigade, the 9th Singapore Division and also the Army Training and Doctrine Command.  He was assigned to New York from 2004 to 207 and served as the Military Adviser to the Singapore Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Mr Leong contributes his spare time to serve the community and is an active volunteer with the FAITHACTS – a church social project to assist youth in the Queenstown neighbourhood.
